Search Engine Optimization is one of the new grounds that we are attempting to tackle currently and it has been a interesting one at that. With the world online business (stores in particular) becoming so viable to companies whether its a add-on or base operations, prospective customers are gonna need to find your store. SEO is the answer to your customer needs. Whenever buyers look for things online they 9 out of 10 times will use a popular search engine to look for sellers. These search engine rank sites off of two main things: relevance and pupularity. You want your store as visible to buyers as it can possibly be to increases sales.
So far through this project, the site in question has been analyzed by its as-is state in terms of how a search spider would crawl through it from the index. Due to inconsistencies and abuse in the past, spiders no longer look at all the descriptors/meta tags for information about a page but instead look at other pages pointing (linking) to it for its description; in simple terms, you may say who you are, but I’m going to compare that to what someone else says about you for accurate results. Products and goods are things that you’re trying to sell so they should be as easily accessable as possible by users and spiders both, i.e. three click rule. The three click rule states that from home page to individual product shouldn’t take more than three clicks to navagate otherwise you risk losing customers and inaccessability by search spiders as well. The most important thing on a site from a search engine perspective is the content and that content needs to be encompassed in the hyperlink pointing to that page from all referring pages.
After analysis I’ve made these several suggestions in a report on my findings with this new endeavor with SEO. Looking forward to the to-be state we need to identify the specific goal of the site and with that in mind what structural changes could be done to make the site more user and search spider friendly. What keywords will bring users here and should they be put in the body of the page, titlebar, alt attributes, etc? These are the quieries that customers will user on google and must bring your store up within the first couple of pages to have hopes that the prospective buyer will find your store’s goods. This is the main result of proper search engine optimization and will be the main focus till the end of the project.
